Boroug, the UAE petrochemical company, announced that Boroug 4, the phase 4 project of the world's largest monomer polyolefin complex led by it, is now more than 50% complete. Located in Ruwais, United Arab Emirates, the project is focused on the production of downstream products based on polymers (polyethylene, polypropylene). The project broke ground in 2022 and is expected to cover an area of more than 3.4 million square meters, equivalent to 500 football fields. The Bolu IV expansion includes a 1.5 mt/a ethane cracking plant, two polyethylene plants built with Nordic chemical polyolefin technology and a cross-linked polyethylene plant, capable of producing 1.4 million tonnes of polyethylene per year. The statement said that the project is expected to be completed by the end of 2025, after completion of the company's total polyolefin production will increase to 6.4 mt/a. The company will also be able to further meet customer demand in key markets including China and India, which together account for approximately 65% of global petrochemical consumer demand and are expected to account for 80% in the future.
