It achieves the purpose of enhancing heat transfer by adding fins (or studs) to a bare base pipe. The base pipe can be made of carbon steel, stainless steel, nickle alloy steel, ND steel, duplex steel, and copper etc. While the fins are made of carbon steel strips, stainless steel strips, copper strips, aluminum strips and the like. Any cold heat exchanger with fins added to the heat transfer tubes to increase the cooling area can be summarized as a "Finned Tube radiator".
